St. Charles has a rich history dating back to its Native American roots and early settlement in the 1830s. Following the Black Hawk War, Evan Shelby and William Franklin established the first settlement in 1833, and the community was officially named St. Charles in 1839. The city was also home to the Kane County Anti-Slavery Society, founded in 1842, and has historical ties to the Underground Railroad. Once a relatively isolated community, St. Charles began to grow with the arrival of the railroad in 1871 and improved connections to Chicago in the following decades. Today, the city’s historic character and transportation routes reflect its evolution from a small Fox Valley settlement into a thriving community.

Wayne is a charming residential community nestled in the Fox River Valley, known for its rich history, peaceful rural character, and strong equestrian tradition. Settled in the 1830s, Wayne grew with the arrival of the railroad and became home to Oaklawn Farm, the renowned Dunham family horse-breeding estate. Today, historic landmarks such as Dunham Castle and the Dunham Woods Riding Club reflect the village’s heritage, while its spacious properties, wooded landscapes, bridle paths, and strong sense of community continue to preserve its distinctive country atmosphere.

Batavia, founded in 1833, is the oldest city in Kane County and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Known as the “Windmill City” during the late 19th century for its thriving windmill manufacturing industry, Batavia has a rich industrial history. Today, it is part of the Tri-City area alongside St. Charles and Geneva and is home to Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, a world-renowned center for particle physics research.
